What is Prayer?
Communication. That's what prayer is, communicating with God.
When we want to convey a message to each other, we use various
methods of communication, or we simply use our mouth. That is
what God wants us to do with Him, open our mouths and tell Him what
we want Him to know. God is personal, we all can go to Him in
prayer . The Bible tells us to come boldly unto the throne of
grace. (Hebrews 4:16)
When we
communicate with God, we can tell Him anything. He already
know, but we still must ask and tell Him what we want.
Through
nature and revelation, through His providence, and by the influence
of His Holy Spirit, God speaks to us. In return, we must speak
back to Him in prayer. When we pray we should open up our
hearts to God as if we were talking to a friend because that is what
His is, a Friend.
When we
work for the Lord, we are working for the good of mankind.
When Jesus went back to Heaven, He went so that He could fulfill all
things. He wants to fulfill all things using us, His ambassadors.
That's why we were given spiritual gifts by Jesus, for the
preaching, teach and training of Christians. In other words,
to equip other Christians to do the work, too.
"He that descended
is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he
might fill all things. And he gave some, apostles; and
some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and
teacher; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all
come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son
of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of
the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:10-13).
In order
for us to help perfect other Christians and win lost souls, and get
them ready to do the work of the ministry, and the edifying of the
church we must spend time with God, and reading; not only the Bible,
which we Christians know is the Most important Book to read.
But we too must spend time reading other inspirational books.
God has
anointed some great writing women and men to write books that will
help us with our Christian walk. Christianbook.com has the
largest inventory of Christian books we have ever seen and, at great
affordable prices.

Suggestions for Your Home Prayer Ministry
Call a Meeting with your loved
ones. Announce to them that you want to start a Home
Prayer Ministry. Tell them when you want to start; and
invite them to come. Suggest to them to bring a dish of
their choice. (This is an excellent way to fellowship).
Enjoy! Have fun.
1. If you name your Prayer
Ministry, and you should, the name of your ministry should have
the words prayer ministry** in it.
For example: The Williams Prayer
Ministry, Bill & Donnas Prayer Ministry, Jehovahs Prayer
Ministry, or The Prayer Ministry of ______, etc.
2. You and your group are
Intercessors, you
are obligated before God, to pray for all people and/or things.
3. Your group should meet regularly. Suggested time: Once
a week or biweekly, at least. Please be very, very consistent
with your meeting times.
4. Before your prayer, you should have a brief praise period.
Sing a song(s) and have Scripture a reading. Its always
good to acknowledge God before we ask Him for anything. Whether or not we ask for anything, He is worthy to be praised.
You and your ministry might want to meet on occasion, not to ask
for anything, but just to praise Him.
5. There are different ways you can pray.
You can use one
of the methods listed below or you can use your own.
-
You can write down and put
all of the things you want to pray for in a container. You
can all place your hands on top of the each other, over or
on the container, and all pray together,
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in
earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
-
You can hold hands in a
circle around the container, and have one person pray for
all the prayer requests ,or
-
you can have each person
take a turn and pray for the things on their heart or list
until each person's list is completed. However you do it,
its up to you; just remember to ask in the name of Jesus.
6. Have each person bring a
dish every time you meet for the purpose of breaking bread
together. God wants us to fellowship in this manner. It can
be anything from a snack to a dinner, its your ministry. You
and your group can serve anything you want to serve.
7.
Dont forget to pray-out. For example:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
(Revelation 22:21). Use what you and your group are comfortable
with.
8. When your ministry group reaches a number that is too
large for your home, ask someone within the group to start a
prayer ministry in their home. This is an excellent way to
spread and grow the ministry. Ask people you know and people
that you meet to start a home prayer ministry. When people see
what God can do through prayer, they are going to be excited
about praying. Ask each person in your group to seek others to
start home prayer ministries.
** Required. The purpose of this is to have a point of
contact, which will keep us all in one accord. When these
ministries reach the four corners of the world, we will still be
One in prayer.
There
is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope
of your calling. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and
Father of all, who is above all, and through all and in you all
(Ephesians 4: 4-6).
